A THERAPEUTIC APPROACH FOR DEALING WITH ABUSING PARENTS AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO THE TRADITIONAL PROSECUTION APPROACH IS DISCUSSED.
Abstract
CURRENT LEGISLATIVE APPROACHES TO THE PROBLEM OF REPORTING CHILD ABUSE CASES ARE SURVEYED. POSSIBLE FUTURE STATUTORY TRENDS AND LEGISLATIVE INNOVATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. A PRAGMATIC AND THERAPEUTIC APPROACH ALREADY IN USE INVOLVING LAY THERAPY, CONTACT WITH OTHER ABUSIVE PARENTS, AND A NEUTRAL PLACE TO LEAVE THE CHILD TO HELP PARENTS WHO ABUSE THEIR CHILDREN TO UNDERSTAND THE ROOTS OF THEIR PROBLEMS IS EXPLAINED.
