Presented in a looseleaf format, this first volume of a five-volume manual covering a comprehensive range of security subjects explains the assessment of vulnerability and the specific equipment and procedures applicable to eight components of security systems.
Abstract
An introduction explains the history of security efforts; defines contemporary standards; and argues for a systems approach which considers software, people, and hardware as the components of the system. Future trends in security are outlined in four areas: crime, social environment, law, and security resources. Regulatory, private, and consensual standards in security are also compared. An examination of vulnerability assessment describes measuring devices, explains security planning, provides guidelines on a team approach, and discusses the budgetary aspects of security. Chapters on specific forms of security discuss fences and other structural barriers, locks, alarm systems, and communications systems. Also covered are the management of guard operations and the planning and implementation of disaster control procedures. Figures, drawings, forms, checklists, equipment specifications, lists of procedures and standards, and chapter bibliographies are included. For the other volumes, see NCJ 97532-35.
