Abstract
The research ranges from large surveys and focus group work to smaller studies. Some research was conducted by Prison Service staff; other research was conducted by external researchers with government funding. Individual studies focused on the impact of the strategic planning initiative among middle managers in the SPS, inmate programs, visitors' views of service in SPS, sentence planning, and training for release and community placements. Other studies focused on HIV/AIDS in correctional facilities, inmate drug use, mental illness among offenders, prisoners with physical disabilities, prisoners vulnerable to assault by other inmates, and the revised parole reports and procedures.
