ORIGINS, ORGANIZATION, AND BEHAVIOR OF WEST GERMAN JUVENILE AND YOUNG ADULT GANGS WHICH ARE CHARACTERIZED BY VIOLENCE AND THE USE OF LEATHER CLOTHES AND MOTORCYCLES AS GROUP STATUS SYMBOLS.
Abstract
THE WEST GERMAN GANGS ORIGINATED IN IMITATION OF GROUPS IN THE UNITED STATES - ESPECIALLY THE 'HELL'S ANGELS' OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA. THE STRUCTURE OF THE GROUPS RANGES FROM SPONTANEOUSLY FORMED, CHANGING MEMBERSHIPS, TO HIGHLY STRUCTURED ORGANIZATIONS WITH CLEAR HIERARCHIES. REPORTS ABOUT THESE GANGS IN THE GERMAN PRESS ARE PROVIDED TO SHOW THE IMAGES OF THEM WHICH ARE FAMILIAR TO THE PUBLIC. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE APPLICABILITY OF PROVISIONS OF THE WEST GERMAN CRIMINAL CODE TO THE ACTIVITIES OF THESE GANGS. --IN GERMAN
