EXPERIMENT INVOLVING 135 PAROLED PRISONERS TO DETERMINE WHETHER INCREASED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PAROLEES WILL POSITIVELY AFFECT THEIR ADJUSTMENT, SHOWING NO SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS WITH INCREASED AID.
Abstract
THE EXPERIMENTERS EXPECTED TO FIND FEWER REARRESTS, LESS PAROLE VIOLATIONS, MORE FAVORABLE ADJUSTMENT, LESS SEVERE CHARGES FOR THOSE REARRESTED, AND HIGHER EMPLOYMENT RATES FOR THE HIGHER AID GROUP. THE SUBJECTS WERE DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS, WITH ONE RECEIVING 470 DOLLARS, ONE RECEIVING 50 DOLLARS, AND THE THIRD GETTING THE STANDARD 20 DOLLARS. THIS STUDY DEALS WITH THE PAROLEE'S STATUS SIX MONTHS AFTER RELEASE. NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE GROUPS WAS FOUND IN REARRESTS, ADJUSTMENT, EMPLOYMENT, PAROLE VIOLATIONS OR CRIMINAL CHARGE SERIOUSNESS AT THE END OF THIS PERIOD.
