Abstract
An introduction to physical security contains articles on the levels of physical security, the reason for and the mechanics of a physical security survey, and planning for physical security. Articles on security system design pertain to architectural considerations and the use of security specialists and security surveys to upgrade an inadequate security system. Steps for evaluating new fire protection equipment are described in another article. Articles on financing, contracting for, and servicing security equipment present guidelines for decisions about purchasing or leasing equipment, contract considerations, and the importance of the service contract. The historical development of alarms, the terminology of the alarm industry, and the basics of how alarm systems operate are considered in other articles. Discussions of perimeter protection cover detection and surveillance, perimeter protection for construction sites and other open areas, and perimeter lighting. Remaining articles discuss lock technology and key management, CCTV technical requirements, safes, and backup electrical power. For individual articles, see NCJ 101018-27.
