Abstract

This newsletter, the February 2024 issue of the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP) News at a Glance, provides an overview that updates readers on OJJDP activities, projects, and other justice-related topics. The issue includes an article on the OJJDP-funded Center for Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Juvenile Justice, which targets racial and ethnic disparities in youth justice; another article discusses diversion programs that keep youth out of the justice system. In the “From the Administrator’s Desk” section, OJJDP administrator Liz Ryan provides a note on her speech at the Youth Justice Symposium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on February 1. In the “From the Field” section, readers are advised on how to protect their children from online financial sextortion, in a discussion of “The Vigilant Parent Initiative.” The newsletter also features a webpage that highlights the experiences of Native youth who identify as Two-Spirit or LGBTQ+. Finally, the “News in Brief” section reviews 50 years of the JJDPA; informs of the search for applicants for Youth Reentry Technical Assistance Fellowship Program, and the Coordinating Council’s request for feedback on services to keep youth out of the juvenile justice system; and provides a data snapshot that reveals trends among youth in residential placement.
