The July/August newsletter highlights OJJDP programs designed to prevent and reduce youth violence, training and technical assistance for judges presiding over child abuse and neglect cases, and OJJDP's response to feedback received during a tribal consultation.

Abstract

This issue's Message from the Acting Administrator and top story highlight OJJDP’s efforts to address the nationwide spike in violent crime by emphasizing the use of evidence-based community violence intervention strategies. Additional stories feature a participant in a career-focused mentoring program for youth with disabilities and an initiative providing life skills and counseling to girls at risk for involvement in the juvenile justice system. Other articles cover the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges' annual conference and an OJJDP-funded effort to provide training and technical assistance to judges presiding over child abuse and neglect cases. The Tribal Connections section highlights OJJDP’s response to concerns raised during a June 2020 tribal consultation, a webinar series promoting leadership skills in youth, and a tribe's celebration of its LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit youth.
