Abstract
A DISCUSSION OF SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND MINORITIES INCLUDES EXCERPTS FROM THE KERNER REPORT ON CIVIL DISORDERS, THE MOYNIHAN REPORT ON THE NEGRO FAMILY, AND THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION REPORT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. THE AUTHOR DEVOTES A SEPARATE SECTION TO EACH GROUP DEFINED AS A DEVIANT MINORITY. BY HIS DEFINITION, THE AUTHOR HAS IN MIND PEOPLE WHOSE MORALITY OR WAY OF LIFE IS IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW AND VALUES OF SOCIETY AND WHO ARE COMING OUT IN THE OPEN TO ASSERT THE VALIDITY OF THEIR VALUE SYSTEMS. THE FINAL CHAPTERS PRESENT A DESCRIPTION OF TREATMENT OF DEVIANT MINORITIES IN SAN FRANCISCO, WITH A TOLERANT APPROACH WHICH HAS LED TO THE BREAKDOWN OF STEROTYPES AND REDUCTION IN CRIME AND AGGRESSION ON THE PART OF THE DEVIANTS.
