Abstract
In order to address the needs of the world’s racially and culturally diverse populations of therapy clients in need of quality clinical services, clinical practitioners need to be multiculturally competent. Clinical practitioners are dealing with both a complex and draining process in the multicultural feminist couple treatment of African-American, same-gender loving female adult child sexual abuse survivors. A multicultural feminist therapist must be trained and educated about the issues relevant to culturally informed treatment. This paper focuses on four potential stumbling blocks in the multicultural feminist couple treatment of African-American, same-gender loving female adult child sexual abuse survivors: (1) African-American gender roles; (2) coming out to the self, family, and community; (3) lesbian couple relationships; and (4) expressions of lesbian and bisexual sexualities.
