STUDY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SCALES OF TWO PSYCHIATRIC INVENTORIES USED IN CORRECTIONAL SETTINGS.
Abstract
THE SCALES OF THE BPI WHICH WAS DEVELOPED FOR USE IN A CORRECTIONAL SETTING AND THE MMPI WHICH WAS DEVELOPED FOR USE IN PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALS ARE COMPARED USING A PRINCIPAL COMPONENTS ANALYSIS. THE STUDY REVEALED THAT THE BPI APPEARS TO IDENTIFY INTRA-PSYCHIC PAIN, BELLIGERENCE, SOCIAL WITHDRAWAL, AND SEXUAL IDENTITY PROBLEMS MORE ADEQUATELY THAN THE MMPI, BUT LACKS STRENGTH IN IDENTIFYING PSYCHOTIC REACTIONS AND DISOWNED PROBLEMS.
