Data show that boys and young men of color, regardless of socio-economic background, are disproportionately at risk throughout the journey from their youngest years to college and career. MENTOR: The National Mentoring partnership has designed and released the Guide to Mentoring Boys and Young Men of Color. This interactive webinar will introduce mentoring programs to the guide, which serves as a supplement to the fourth edition of The Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring, and includes additional recommended practices focusing on boys and young men of color (BYMOC).

Through the webinar, presenters will guide the discussion on how to help move mentors beyond cultural competence and toward an integration of critical consciousness for both the mentor and the young black males that they mentor.

Session Outline:
- Review of The Partnership and Mentor
- Discuss on The Elements of Effective Practice and the Essential Guide
- Specializing in mentorship of youth of color that BYMOC are better served with a targeted set of practices, which represent enhancements of those in the original Element

Target Audience: School, business, community and faith-based mentoring staff members who are responsible for operating mentor programs and/or training mentors.
