2008 The Second Chance Act

President George W. Bush signs the Second Chance Act, creating OJP grant programs to improve outcomes for the hundreds of thousands of people released from prisons and jails each year. To remove federal barriers to reentry, OJP leads the staffing group for the Federal Interagency Reentry Council, formally established by President Barack Obama in 2016. President Donald J. Trump establishes the Federal Interagency Council on Crime Prevention and Improving Reentry in March 2018.
